Nurmu is a social experiment exploring how expats, digital nomads, and individuals worldwide can cultivate authentic, connected social lives. The name "Nurmu" reflects this mission, drawing inspiration from the founder's love for the Balkans and Anatolia—regions rich in authenticity and hospitality. In Turkish, "nur" means light, symbolizing inner radiance or divine illumination, while the Greek "mou" means "my," together forming "my light." This embodies the belief that when we nurture self-love and inner peace, we naturally share our light with others, fostering a more compassionate and connected world.

Meet Our Founder

Melody Bartholomew is a Californian and global citizen devoted to fostering authentic human connection. With experience living in three foreign countries and solo traveling across five continents, she understands the challenges of cultural transitions, remote work, and building community abroad. Her professional background spans social impact marketing, event management, psychosocial skills training, and teaching English as a second language.

Melody’s journey into community-building began as an expat seeking support for herself. This led her to create expat support groups in multiple countries, where she facilitated meaningful connections and shared resources with others navigating similar challenges. She has also worked closely with individuals facing serious illnesses and survivorship, gaining profound insights into empathy, resilience, and the importance of being truly seen and heard.

Driven by the belief that authentic connection is vital for personal well-being and global cooperation, Melody’s mission centers on helping others prioritize relationships, amplify their voices, and cultivate meaningful, supportive communities. She emphasizes social connection as a cornerstone of holistic health, essential for thriving in an increasingly interconnected yet fragmented world.
